About the book
Novac grada Splita is the first standalone catalogue devoted exclusively to the municipal coinage of Split. Zlatko Viščević and Tomislav Dundović combine established literature with new research in a systematic catalogue of 73 coin types and 271 variants, including 38 additions compared with earlier references.
The book is designed for identification. Most types are shown actual size and enlarged, with obverse and reverse descriptions, tables of legend and symbol variants, and concordances to Dobrinić, Rengjeo and Stockert. Dedicated identifiers clarify difficult dinars marked “E” and the “SPALATIN” group.
Covering the late 12th century to 1518, the catalogue includes parvuli, piccoli, the coinage of Duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić and Venetian bagattini. Market values in EUR are given for four grades.

The introductory chapters present the history and characteristic examples of Split coinage. Separate identification studies discuss dinars with the letter “E”, the legends SPALATINO or SPALATINVS, the shortened legend SPAL, piccoli, dinars with the head of St Domnius, the coinage of Duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić and Venetian bagattini.
A practical guide explains coin names, catalogue numbering, preservation grades, numismatic values, images, identification features and the comparison of catalogue references.
The catalogue itself is organised chronologically into six sections: municipal coinage under Hungarian influence; thirteenth-century municipal coinage; early fourteenth-century parvuli and piccoli; issues under Venetian influence; grossi, dinars and half-dinars of Duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić from 1403 to 1413; and bagattini of the Venetian administration from 1491 to 1518.
