A comprehensive English-language reference catalogue devoted to the thaler-type coinage of Archduke Ferdinand II of Tyrol. This revised and extended edition substantially enlarges the author’s earlier identification catalogue and incorporates additional denominations, variants, illustrations and market information.

About the book

Tyrolean Thaler Type Coins of Archduke Ferdinand II is the revised and extended edition of Dr. Iván Lux’s specialist work on the Tyrolean coinage of Archduke Ferdinand II.

The original identification catalogue concentrated on undated thalers and provided a systematic method for distinguishing numerous closely related varieties. The revised 2022 edition expands the work to 192 pages and extends its coverage to additional thaler-type denominations and related issues.

The catalogue covers undated single thalers minted at Hall, multiple and fractional thalers, dated and undated guldentalers and half-guldentalers, and selected countermarked pieces.

Individual entries include coin images, legends, variant information, references to earlier literature, rarity ratings and auction hammer prices. The work also discusses roller minting, a technology particularly important for understanding die combinations and variants in the Hall mint.
