About the book

Thalers of Transylvania, Volume 1 is the first volume of an extensive specialist monograph devoted to the thaler-type silver coinage of Transylvania.

The work covers the issues of the Transylvanian rulers from the second half of the 16th century through the reign of Gabriel Báthori. Individual ruler sections combine historical background with detailed numismatic analysis and systematic classification of the known issues.

The catalogue presents more than 370 thaler types, with illustrations available for approximately 316 types. Entries provide identification data such as dimensions, weight, thickness, date, mint, variants and auction information. Important details are frequently shown in enlarged photographs to facilitate attribution.

Special attention is also given to roller-minted coinage, correspondence with earlier reference systems and the distinction between genuine, possibly genuine and forged pieces.
