An extensive English-language reference catalogue devoted to Hungarian thaler-type coins struck during the reign of Leopold I. The book systematically covers issues from Kremnitz, Nagybánya and Pressburg, including double, single, half and quarter thalers as well as multiple ducats struck with thaler dies.

About the book

Hungarian Thaler Type Coins of Leopold I (1657–1705) is a detailed specialist study of one of the most important and diverse series of Hungarian Habsburg coinage.

The authors examined more than 4,700 images from auction records and public and private collections. The resulting catalogue contains 281 variants of Hungarian thaler-type coins together with 45 variants of multiple ducats bearing thaler-type designs.

The principal mints covered are Kremnitz, Nagybánya and Pressburg. Individual variants are presented with identifying features, obverse and reverse inscriptions, references to earlier catalogues, empirical rarity information and auction-price data.

The catalogue substantially expands upon the number of variants recorded in earlier standard references such as Huszár, Herinek, Unger, CNA and Voglhuber.
